About Us

A Brief History: The Melbourne University Netball Club has been in existence for over 25 years and has grown to be one of the largest sports clubs operating at the University of Melbourne. Club members compete in the Parkville Netball Competition held at the State Netball and Hockey Centre, and in the Tin Alley Netball Competition held at Melbourne University Sport.  The club also holds many social events, including team dinners, end-of-season functions, a netball-football ball and (hopefully) a cricket-netball booze cruise this season.

When first established MUNC could only cater for a few teams in the local competition. Since then, we have grown to currently have 20 teams playing in the Parkville Netball Competition, plus a number of teams at Melbourne Uni. There are multiple teams registered in every section of the Parkville Competition, and we also have mixed netball teams who play competitively. Teams train weekly in addition to playing their game, and coaches are all well established netballers and professionals, who are hired by the club.

Club Philosophy: MUNC is a proud club and in addition to providing our members with the ability to play netball, we also have a philosophy of promoting health and fitness. Ultimately we play to win but we also pride ourselves on the fact that we are a respected club and play the game fairly and competitively.

Club Membership: There are three levels of membership of the netball club:

Premier/A grade: In Autumn 2011, we had 5 premier league teams and 8 A grade teams competing at Parkville. These teams are expected to attend every training session, with teams selected weekly based on training attendance, form and attitude. Coaches are in attendance at every training and game. Players have played competitive netball for a number of years and are prepared to fully commit to netball.

Game Nights: A grade Monday, Prem Tuesday.

Training Night: Thursday night (rotating times between 6-10pm).

Cost: ~$150 for Spring season + $58 VNA yearly + $90 uniform. Autumn Season is longer so generally costs more

B/C grade: These teams also compete in the Parkville Competition and are expected to attend all trainings. This group differs as coaches do not attend all games, which keeps prices down and allows a more relaxed approach.

Game Night: Thursday

Training Night: Tuesday 6-8pm

Cost: ~$100 for Spring season + $58 VNA yearly + $90 uniform

Tin Alley Netball: This is the stepping stone to the netball club for ALL new players. As trials are only held twice per year, it often does not coincide with the start of uni, so players miss out.  This competition is held throughout semester on Wednesday nights at Melbourne Uni. The club will organise trials prior to the competition starting to finalise teams, and teams will compete under the MUNC name. Teams are also invited to attend club training and all club functions. Players demonstrating their commitment in this comp will be given priority for playing with the club in the following season.

Game Night: Wednesday

Training Night: Tuesday 6-8pm

Cost: $20 rego fee, + $60/team/week
